Blues Positive voted BEST BRITISH BLUES BAND on the Maryport Festival Trail 2008!

The Results Are In, (11/12/08)

These experienced musicians from West Yorkshire in the United Kingdom were voted Best British Blues Band at the prestigious Maryport Blues Festival in 2008, building on their growing popularity at similar events in Dundee, Burnley, and Colne. Lead vocalist Tim King proves that you can have a British accent and still sing the Blues with conviction. Screaming Jay Hawkins' "I Put A Spell On You" and a host of other classics by Broonzy, McTell, and Estes are performed with a raw emotion that transcends race and colour.

King is a consummate professional who is multi-talented, playing amazing harp on "Leaving Trunk" and "My Babe," superb soprano saxophone on Allison's "Your Mind Is On Vacation," and mind-blowing tenor sax on "Key To The Highway." My favourite track is "I Wish I Knew," which I prefer to Derek Trucks' version on his seminal Songlines album.

Tim King served his apprenticeship at Ronnie Scott's in London and it is this Jazz influence that is setting Blues Positive apart from the crowd and contributing to their rising profile. Bassist Rick Jones and drummer Dave Hatfield lay down a steady groove, with guitarist Martin Hutchinson producing some innovative guitar riffs and gentle solos. "Positively Blue" was written by Hutchinson and the lyrics and arrangement augur well for future original material. Taking the Blues from Chicago to Shipley might have seemed too big a leap for a white band that includes a university professor and a doctor, but in the end it turned out to be a small step as the Test Results show
